Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Title Aide so I pull small groups of students who need extra help with their letters, sounds, vocabulary, and reading. Most of my students are kindergartners and first graders learning their letters, letter sounds and sight words. I also work with second grade students who are working on strengthening their writing. All of the student at our school receive free lunch and come from high-poverty, low-income situations. About 50% of our students are Hispanic and came to school knowing very little English.
The students that I serve are energetic and eager to learn to become stronger readers.
I try to make our small-group sessions as much fun as I can so that the student enjoy coming. I want to be able to provide them with fun activities to practice these important skills to build a foundation for future learning.
My Project
The students I serve need extra help with their language and reading skills. I work to create fun, educational activities to motivate them to want to learn. However, I have found that we need more activities.
We need activities to target specific language and reading skills.
The word building puzzle, phonemic awareness tin, sounds bingo and letter identification set will help my kindergarten students to master their letters and letter sounds. The sight word puzzles and Road to Reading kit will help my first grade students build upon their vocabulary and reading skills. The file folder games and Launch and Learn language games will help all of my groups practice their skills.
With these new activities, every single one of my groups will have fun, educational activities to practice with. I want the students I serve to be excited to come to our small-group because I want them to be focused on learning. Having these games and activities will drastically improve the motivation in our small-groups. Please consider donating to help my students succeed!
