This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Our students come from a low income rural community with over 100% of our students receiving free lunch. Our school is one of many Title I schools in Mississippi. Our students experience a deficit in resources that the average student in this country doesn't. Our history textbooks are out of date. Classroom supplies are at a minimal. As budgets shrink, so do the number of field trips and the number of guest programs. Our students are bright and intelligent. They deserve the opportunity to experience the quality resources students at other schools have.
My Project
This is the first year my school is offering Theatre. There is very little in the budget to launch the curriculum. Theatre is often performed by the bootstraps of its artists. However, having a good library of material to learn from will reduce the need to tug on those bootstraps as often.
My room is bare and in need of supplies.
We need scripts. We need lights. We need podiums to present from. We need books. For this project, I am requesting a library of theatre books and a podium to present from.
I look forward to teaching my students the joys and benefits of the theatrical arts. To do that, starting from the ground up, we will need your help.
