Beginning Robotics at the Elementary School Level

My students need tools that will allow them to begin the process of learning about robots. The Cubelets Mini Makers Education pack will allow my students the opportunity to create, problem solve, and build robots.

My Students

My students love to learn!

They are a diverse group of amazing students that are eager to learn how their class subjects show up in real life.

While our community understands that we teach a standards based curriculum, I want to take it a step forward. I want the students to see how each lesson can apply to them in the "real world".

My students want to know that the education they are receiving will help them as they grow up. At this age, my students begin to research career opportunities. This allows me to have a gateway for the application of what they are learning in class. Most importantly, I believe my students can foster a deeper love of learning that will allow them to be life long learners.

For the 2017-18 year, I will be teaching all subjects, including accelerated math and language arts. As my students will tell you, I love weaving it all together.

My Project

As the Math and Science teacher, I have found traction when students use hands-on coding and robot tools. They love working with technology beyond a tablet or PC. At this time, we are limited to the access to have tools for the students to work on. The Cubelet system will allow my students to learn the basic functions of robotics with a learning curve that is designed for my grade level.

The Cubelets are a powerful sandbox of learning and problem solving for the elementary school student.

No worries about batteries or difficulty to get started. Simply connect a few cubes, then the student gets the opportunity to explore what it can do. After the students learn what the cubes can do, they can take on more complex challenges and problem solving.

I see this as an introduction to robotics. As students become successful at this level, I can foresee establishing a robotic club for the school. Robotics are quickly becoming part of our future. Our children need to be the designers of tomorrow.
