Beginning Readers With Great Minds

Help me give my students these letter tiles, magnetic boards, decodable readers and activities to help them learn to read and open a whole world to them!

My Students

My special education students are in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. They are young learners with lovable personalities. Not a day goes by where they fail to make me smile.

If I had to use a word to describe them, I would say they are tenacious!

Last year, Covid-19 has kept them from seeing each other's smiles and sharing space and materials. This year, they are working so hard to learn what they struggled to do under those circumstances. Learning for them takes a lot more practice and effort but they keep at it. They have dreams to be professional athletes, scientists, entertainers, and teachers. They optimistically think of the future.

My Project

These materials will be used to facilitate students' learning to read and spell words. Right now we are using construction paper letters which has been cumbersome and takes away from valuable instruction and practice time.

With this grant, each student in my group will be able to have their own set of quality letter tiles to manipulate and practice with.

The decodable books will be texts specific to phonics skills they've been taught. Good quality materials will increase engagement and the effective use of the time we have to help them become successful readers.
