Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are unique, interesting, active, and hungry to learn. Quite simply, my precious Bilingual students are creators. They love to draw, make crafts, assemble projects, and build with Legos. I love the learning and connections that naturally flow out of their cooperative groups when I give them a project that facilitates their innate creativity.
They are talkers, listeners, laughers, and love-givers.
It doesn't matter what we are talking about or doing in class, they are busy writing, reading, listening, discussing, or drawing at any given time. They are full of life and charisma and developing into stronger, more mature leaders every day! I am so blessed to get the opportunity to be their teacher and so grateful for the joy they bring me by simply being themselves.
They are future writers, artists, engineers, and scientists. They are on-the-move mapping out and charting the seas of their individual destinies every single day. Together, we are overcoming obstacles, one class at a time.
My Project
My Bilingual 3rd graders greatly benefit from having the content of our class explicitly taught in both English and Spanish. The Presentation boards will be used as mobile word walls where vocabulary words will be displayed in a tangible and visual way, easily accessed from wherever they are in the classroom at the time.
The multi-colored index cards will be part of our interactive word wall where different colors represent various subjects and are hung on a ring and placed below each letter of the alphabet.
The red and blue markers will be used to write the week's learning objectives in both English and Spanish. Because language development is so important to my students, I want to make every effort to facilitate as much exposure to new vocabulary as possible.
