My students need basic materials such as notebooks, pencils and expo markers because they will use these EVERYDAY. Last year these essential supplies were so helpful to ensuring my scholars received an equitable education.
My scholars attend Gary Lighthouse Charter School-Upper Academy, better know as GLUA! We are located in Gary, IN and my scholars live in the local neighborhoods of Gary and Miller, IN.
All of my scholars are an excellent, ambitious, thriving group.
My scholars come every day ready to learn and engage in a math lesson at 8:30 am. They are my second group of scholars and I do not think I could have asked for a better group.
My students are the next generation whose beliefs will create a world equal for all. My students consistently last year talked about opportunity and being capable of doing many things when they get older such as: going to college, becoming an actress, being an orthodontist, providing for their mothers and so much more. This year I have the opportunity to loop with my same first group of scholars from last year so I can continue this journey with them.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my scholars learning in many ways. The notebooks will allow them to have a math notebook for traditional note taking which is new to them this year. The expo markers will allow them to workout math problems on their desk and come up to the board frequently. The copy paper will allow me to make the copies I need so I can successfully plan for differentiation instruction due to I only receive a limited number of sheets from my school. Lastly, pencils will allow them to be stress free from needing a writing utensil and having to scavenge around for one.
