Ms. Williams from Chester SC is requesting books through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need age appropriate books with engaging illustrations that hold their attention. These include the Silly Sally Big Book, Sheep In A Jeep Classic Lit Book and the Quick As A Cricket Softcover book.

Think of the books that you're reading now. Chances are you didn't start reading a book of that size when you were young. Imagine if you were four years old and didn't have access to books on a regular basis to develop that love of reading.
We are a Title 1 school in a rural part of South Carolina.
My classroom is comprised of ten special-needs preschoolers, but more students are added throughout the year. Students enter the classroom at the age of three. To qualify, there must be evidence of a special need that early intervention can benefit. We are a welcoming and loving classroom. My students exceed my expectations daily. They just need the love and resources to thrive.
These books will serve a few functions. First of all, they will be read during our large group times. Here, I read aloud and for many of my students, this is the only time they will be read to. Read-alouds promote vocabulary and reading comprehension, both of which are essential for success in upper grades. These books are also placed in our reading corner as an activity of choice during centers. I want to show students that reading is fun. In this center, students often "read" to one another. This teaches cooperation and allows students to retell the story in their own words. Retelling allows students to demonstrate that they understand what is being read.
Many of my students have had a rough start in the first few years of life, but I believe they deserve more than that.
The parents that I work with are wonderful parents trying to provide for their children in the best way that they can. However, there is often not a lot of extra money to be spent on books.
