My four and five year olds DEVOUR any reading material that is handed to them! I teach preschool in a high-need rural area. I am proud to be using the High Scope model of teaching. This curriculum has helped mold my students into into self-reliant, self-motivated children.

My students need more books to help motivate them to continue reading at the pace that they are right now. All of my students want to read, and all can read, but we need a more varied supply of books to give them that extra nudge!

To initiate this project we need Weekly Readers as a special treat for every student to take home every week so that they can begin their own library. Weekly Readers will inundate the children with new vocabulary words, introduce them to the world around them, and educate them in the area of non-fiction. Scholastic Leveled Readers and Bob Books will be used as "just right" books for students to use for individual reading, partner reading, side by side reading with a peer or a favorite adult, or even reading to our classroom, or to another classroom. I look forward to seeing my students using these books as a vehicle to learn more about decoding words, recognizing sight words, and to practice fluency. I also intend to use all of these books during guided reading time to model strategies that good readers use.

Your support WILL EMPOWER students to read, and to increase their knowledge of the world around them. Thanks to you making the project a reality, each child's ability to learn will increase greatly by being able to read.
