Our middle school students had a difficult time in music class. A lot of them did not want to be here, because they were forced to be here. They wanted choice, and they were finally heard.
There is now an overwhelming amount of interest in music by middle school students, just because they have a choice.
Students are now being given the opportunity to be in band or choir. I am so happy to see the joy for music back in the middle school. They are eager to come to class each day, and have been fully involved in learning and creating in music class!
My Project
I teach at a Title I school in Metro Detroit. There is so much to love about these students, but behavior is an issue. Students are forced to go to specials every day, and many of them resent the idea of being forced to go anywhere.
Thanks to this project, they have been given a choice.
Students now have the opportunity to choose between Band, Choir, and General music. Thanks to these choices, student behavior has improved immensely, and my ability to provide engaging and effective instruction has also increased. Unfortunately, student choice has been threatened by the maintenance costs of band. Through donating to this project, you will be benefiting students through taking worry away from them, and their parents. They will no longer have to worry about the maintenance of constantly buying new reeds, or having to buy their method books (because we will now have a classroom set).
Students in this community have enough to worry about, and having these items readily available to them will help give them one less thing to worry about.
