Coming from a large school in an even larger district, it's easy for good kids to be overlooked. My 7th graders are a wonderful group of kind-hearted, fun-loving children who are eager to learn new things and experience novel ideas in their ELA class. (Haha, get it? Novel?) Every day is an adventure filled with odd questions and sometimes downright hilarious comments. I cannot take any credit for this. This is all due to the work of my students.
Our ELA classroom is a messy, loud, happy environment where the kids are free to think and challenge each other's opinions on texts that we read together.
My students are not your traditional learn-by-textbook children, and finding ways to match their innovative personalities with creative lessons is a top priority for me.
My Project
Ok, you caught me. It's true, the materials that I am requesting for my students are not conventional in a school setting. These bean bag chairs will be used by a group of wonderful kiddos who work hard every day in AND after school to do well in their academics, often staying up late with homework. And I want to reward them for their hard work.
In these bean bag chairs my 7th graders are invited to get comfy with complex texts, such as "The Hobbit" and "Animal Farm," and explore a literary world side-by-side.
Our school system emphasizes standardized testing; my classroom emphasizes personalized learning. Matching my kids' unique personalities, these bean bag chairs can bridge the gap between comfort and challenge.
Will you help us along our journey in traveling to Mordor with Bilbo and fighting against Comrade Napoleon?
