"Technology will never replace great teachers, but technology in the hands of great teachers is transformational." - George Couros Help our 7th grade science teachers bring the world of discovery into the classroom to inspire students to ask questions, seek answers, and understand the world around them.
Our 7th grade students consists of diverse learners with mixed interest, abilities, and educational needs.
In one classroom, we will have high achieving students working along side students with special needs. Our students are highly involved in a wide range of extra curricular activities outside of the classroom, from drama, music, and art, to athletics. All of which add to their individual experiences and what they bring to the classroom. Students learn to work with others that may not be exactly like themselves.
My Project
With the gifted chrome books, students will explore the inside and x-ray views of scarab beetles, using a virtual dissection software provided through Arizona State University, Ask A Biologist. Students will be assigned the lessons through Google Classroom. A pre-assessment will be given to provide students with a reading assignment and activity, Build A Beetle. Students will then use the technology to virtually dissect and use x-ray to discover the anatomy of the beetle while answering assigned questions to guide their discovery. This lesson will require students to use argument supported by evidence for how the body is a system of interacting subsystems composed of groups of cells. Doing this lesson with the assistance of technology will give the students a more hands-on experience and get them actively involved in the learning process.
Through the lesson, students will learn why insect physiology and anatomy are important to understand.
Students will apply this knowledge to understand the major body systems of insects. Students will describe the function of major body systems of beetles and how this compares to human systems. Students will understand general animal body plans and what body functions are widespread among animals.
