My students need the bilingual English- Spanish books for our class library. The most expensive item is the abacus which will be used to help the students build fluency in addition and subtraction skills. We also need bean bags.
I work in a Title 1 school with a diverse group of students who are in the Second Grade Dual Spanish Immersion Program. Some of my students are native speakers of Spanish, which is the target language, and the others are native speakers of English. My students love to read, and they enjoy bilingual texts.
Our class is one of the four groups of students participating in the Dual Spanish Immersion Program at the 2nd-grade level.
In addition to that, our school is also an IB school, and my students are learning about being open-minded and knowledgeable.
My Project
My students are in the Dual Language Immersion Program, and we are in need of bilingual books to help build up literacy skills. The bilingual books that I have chosen will be for our class library. The students will be able to read independently or with a partner. In addition to that, they will be able to check out these books to take home to read by themselves or with family members.
Research in our state has shown that students who are immersed in Dual Language Programs perform at or above the level of their peers in regular classes on standardized tests.
The abacus is a manipulative that will give the students hands-on experience to build fluency in addition and subtraction skills. Finally, the bean bags will be used in our reading center, so that my students can relax and enjoy great bilingual texts!
