My Students

Norfork is a low income school district nestled in the north central part of Arkansas. Our student population varies but averages around 450 k-12. Being an Agriculture Education Instructor allows me to work with students outside of the normal classroom setting.

Our income base is fairly low so we depend a lot on grants and donations for some of our daily requirements.

Students here are sometimes challenged by a lack of opportunity due to funding restrictions. With the proper opportunity these young people will have a chance to shine.

My Project

Sustainability and understanding of where our food comes from is the question. Currently I am in the process of adding a new bee project to our curriculum in my Ag Education program. I have 3 hives on campus for the summer. I am in the process of obtaining the required safety gear for students to actively take part in the care and handling of bees and also the collection of honey. I feel like this project will help them understand the Farm to Fork aspect of agriculture. Students will learn about the life cycle of the bee colony as well as pollination.
