My students need beekeeping equipment like the deep hive bodies and supers, as well as protective gear to inspect, and help expand our existing gifted beehives.

My Students

As a long time beekeeper, I wanted to get a couple of beehives at my school to start a bee club. My hope is that the bee club will help to spread the word on how important pollinators are to our environment.

My school is in Midtown Atlanta.

We are a diverse, inner city school with about 42% White students, 42% African American and 8% Hispanic. My club will be a first of its kind at my school and I hope that it can expose kids of all different backgrounds to the wonder of bees!

My Project

I was recently gifted two honeybee hives for the school. I currently have just the hives and bees themselves, but there are many other supplies I need to make it a more useable teaching aid. Things I need include a bee suit for me, multiple veils for students wanting to observe/assist, additional hive components for the future growth of the hive, gloves, and a few other tools to work the hive.

While the major expense of beekeeping is usually the hive and the bees, which were gifted, these support materials will help to ensure that this venture will be one that will support this educational opportunity for years to come.
