My students are thoughtful, creative, and fun! They love a good challenge. The range of their abilities and talents is wide, but I love seeing how they can work together collaboratively and support each other.
Our classroom culture is kind; whether it be math, reading, writing, science, social studies, or computer science, we are cheering each other on.
Relationships are the foundation of our classroom community. We are hard workers. We try our best and we celebrate both small and large steps of growth. We know that our mindset matters and ours are fixed on growth!
My Project
Ada Lovelace, Grace Hopper, and Margaret Hamilton were all pioneers in the age of computer science. I want to teach my students about these women who changed the world through picture books detailing their accomplishments. I believe that computer science is important for the 21st century. Teaching coding to young students offers great opportunity for complex thinking. We will spend time learning about what coding is and we will start at a first grade level with following a set of directions (an algorithm). I'm so excited to teach this vocabulary! After learning the basics, we will get to use the bee bots. Kids will be able to program the bee bots to follow an algorithm. There are many extensions for bee bots. You can create a path for your bee bot, or make a maze, use it for drawing shapes, retelling stories, and so much more.
The problem solving, collaboration, and vocabulary growth possibilities from learning coding and working with bee bots will be tremendous.
Thank you for your support, I am so looking forward to learning and growing with my students and sharing my insights with the staff at my school!
