This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am an elementary school STEAM Makerspace teacher and see every K-5 student every week. This project will provide my students with a foundation of coding and problem solving that will challenge them. For students to code a program, they must identify a problem and then figure out the steps necessary to solve it. This teaches them to be systematic and creative in their thinking and collaborate their thoughts. Coding allows students to not only use computer skills but design computer programs.

Our school is a Title I school and my goal with this project is to bring in materials to make our makerspace so students have the opportunity to explore STEAM activities and expand their curiosities.These Bee-Bots are a great way to assess student learning by creating mats to match what they have been learning.

Items like the Bee-Bots will be used as an introduction to coding. Students will use their coding skills to program the Bee-Bot to go to a specified area on the mat. What a fun way to learn and assess in the classroom. The charging station will help us keep them safe and charged so they are ready to use.
