Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach 31 incredible 5th graders in a high poverty school in California. My students face numerous challenges, but they come to school every day ready to learn and do their best!
With so much emphasis on reading and math test scores, writing often gets put on the back burner at my school. However, I know it's something my students desperately need more help with in order to be successful later in life. I'm committed to implementing a Writer's Workshop, which I know will truly benefit to my students, but my school lacks the budget for the basic supplies that my students and I need to get started.
The basic supplies I've requested will get my class started on their journey to become real authors! They will be able to keep their thoughts in their journals, their "in progress" work in their folders, and their finished work in their portfolios. Students will all have pencils and pens to edit their peers' work and grow as writers! Our year will culminate with the students taking their best writing and turning it into their own typed and illustrated hard cover book!
