This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Do you remember the excitement of learning to read and write but feeling frustrated because your classroom had limited resources to help learn these critical life time skills?
My first grade students are attending a public school in Colorado.
The majority of my students are Hispanic and African American coming from a lower sociol-economic status. Many of my students are English Language Learners. My students are mostly reading below grade level. The students are excited about learning to read and write.
This year our school turned around into an innovative school in hopes to increase student achievement.
My Project
Since my classroom is a high-poverty classroom, I have strict limits on the supplies that I am given. This is my 2nd year teaching, and I am still trying to build my resources. First grade is an essential year for reading and writing. With your help you will help me build a strong reading/writing foundation. I hope to inspire my students to love reading and writing and give them the tools to live a rich literate life after first grade!
The majority of my students are reading below grade level.
These materials will greatly impact my students' learning during the literacy block. During our literacy block it is crucial that I meet with 3 small guided reading group because I am committed in making sure each of my students leave 1st grade reading on grade level. My students must be independent and actively working on literacy skills to help them reach their goals. By having engaging stations will help them achieve their goals!
