My Students

My students are part of the Dual Language Immersion program learning Chinese. They spend half of their day learning math, science, language arts, and social studies in English, and the other half of their day learning language and science in Chinese. They have been in this program since first grade. My instruction and learning are engaging and fast-paced as we cover all the standards in the 5th-grade core as well as half-day instruction in the Chinese language. These are highly motivated students who learn in English half-day and then speak, write, listen, and read Chinese during the other half-day of instruction.

COVID-19 has impacted my teaching and learning beginning with the soft closure two years ago, the reduced school day, mask-wearing, and social distancing of last year, and many absences this year due to family or personal illnesses.

Many students face the challenge of trying to catch up on skills missed the last two years as well as become and stay proficient on the 5th-grade curriculum.

My Project

Students' learning has been affected by COVID-19 through the soft closure, reduced hours, social distancing, and excessive absences due to personal and family illnesses.

My students can benefit from Scholastic and STEM resources to help them get and stay proficient in math and ELA skills.

Students have struggled to stay proficient in their math and ELA skills for the past two school years. These resources help students build background knowledge, make connections, and experience the world around them right in our classroom. I have seen students learn and progress when using these effective resources.
