"Innovation is taking two things that already exist and putting them together in a new way."
I would like my students to take tools and use them in different ways to engage and support their learning in and out of the classroom.
We are a K-8 project based learning school where we are focusing on hands-on learning and providing students the opportunity to display, see and listen to each other's learning.
We are aiming to create real-life projects where students can apply what they have learned in the real world. Our middle school students are becoming more technologically advanced and are eager and motivated to learn more innovative ways to show and explain their thinking as well as different ways to present their projects in school.
My Project
With the use of iPads, we can project students' work and have students explain their work to their peers. They can write on the iPad to make adjustments as they present. Students can also use the microphone to record their steps, and we, as teachers, can use it as an informal assessment tool. Additionally, students can create videos for individual/group projects.
Along with the technology tools, we also believe that it is important for students to be able to display their work on white boards and/or chart paper. A hands-on tool that can be used during group work would be easels where students are able to directly write on the easels and/or attach chart paper onto the easels to work together to create a poster/presentation.
Students will learn how to use the iPad for different purposes (i.e. creating presentations, videos) as well as use the easel to work collaboratively with their group members to create projects and presentations.
The classroom environment will improve as students are able to pick and choose the tools they would like to use to create presentations and projects and find an innovative way to present to the class.
Through the use of technology and working collaboratively with others, students will learn essential 21st century skills that will be important for students to apply to their everyday lives.
