Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

I believe every child deserves the opportunity for an excellent education, and I am proud to partner with my school, other educators, families, and community leaders to strive toward this goal. I teach in a high poverty school zone in which 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. These amazing students need additional support because most of them come from low-income single family households of which many have little to no support or resources. Despite some of the challenges they face in and around their environment, every year my students come to school excited, full of life, and eager to learn.

As the 2016 and 2019 Teacher of the Year as well as an alumni of Metro Atlanta Teach for America, I choose to continue to significantly impact the life trajectories of students in our region’s high-need communities.

My Project

My students need a PA system to find their voices and become fluent readers. Now that we are face to face during this pandemic, we are wearing masks all day. Often, I am unable to hear my students and they are unable to hear me.

Being able to speak with confidence helps when you are navigating the path to literacy, and a PA system will give them the boost they need!

The Bluetooth function on the PA system will also allow me to show my students educational materials that accompany the curriculum without having to rely on computer speakers that are not loud enough for my students to hear.

Using the PA system, my students will become confident in their abilities!
