Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
No one said it was going to be easy the first year. In mid-year, I had to move grades from fourth to second. It was a hard decision, but by taking that role, I have seen growth in my teaching. However, it's about these kids that come to my class.
First, my students are English-language learners.
Second, my students come from traumatic lifestyles. Those two factors affect their learning ability. As a teacher, I want to find ways that can help their literacy skills. I want to them feel safe and loved in my classroom. Regardless of their barrier, my students come to school ready to learn. They work hard every day to achieve each learning goal. I want to give them more opportunities to engage in their learning environment.
My Project
If my class received the listening center that would help build fluency including proper phrasing, and expression. This center will give audio assistance for my students. It will help with word recognition and pronunciation. Also, it helps my students become confident readers without support. Reading is something that we must be able to do, and I believe that listening centers will help improve my students reading skills. We would use the listening center during centers. It would help my classroom because as a first year I do not have much for literacy centers. This new center would provide my students a more engaging way to hone their skills.
Allowing these students to have access to essential technology and supportive help for instruction will provide them with the tools to succeed.
My students love big books. I would like to have an easel to help with guided reading. I have a smart board that is an older model and doesn't work very well. The problem is the smart board is in the middle of my board. I would like to have the easel to easily do flow charts or graphic organizers as a whole group. The easel would minimize losing instruction time for moving around them while they are on the carpet. The easel would give my students the pace for them to learn more efficiently. I want to be able to have more interactions with my students vs. minor problems with the setup of the room. My students will be able to learn and be more engaged in the whole group.
