Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Each one of my 28 third graders has a unique and wondrous brain. Together, we work as a team to challenge, learn, and explore. We hold each other to high expectations and constantly strive to be our best selves. In our classroom we work to be kind and helpful members of our community.
My students are part of the Copper King Coyote family.
They are leaders of the pack. Each of them perseveres, achieves, cooperates, and displays kindness. Both our school and classroom are a community. We are a tight knit family. My students know that they are held to high expectations by me, but also by the other countless caring adults on our campus. With many odds against them, our students come to school each day with a smile on their face and an open mind.
My Project
A Scholastic News subscription will help my students stay up to date on current events. As members of the community, it is critical that we are aware of what is happening in and around us. We will read and research various topics, and continue projects if students see fit. I believe that this will be a great resource for students to understand the importance of being an educated and involved citizen. Living in a high poverty area causes many of these students to not get the experience of having conversations about current issues at home, but this resource will offer another platform for that opportunity.
A Scholastic News subscription will enhance the learning that takes place in my classroom.
I will be able to tailor curriculum to students knowledge and interests. Students will become critical thinkers after reading about social or global issues. Students will see the importance of volunteering in a community, and hopefully be able to experience volunteering as well. I believe that a news subscription will round them into brilliant and courageous individuals.
