My students live in a low-income, high-poverty community in the heart of Western North Carolina. Most students in this school qualify for free/reduced lunch. Our school is in the center of the Appalachian Mountains and has mostly farm land surrounding it. They are growing and learning in the same small, tight knit, school community that inspired me to be a teacher.
The students in my classroom work very hard to excel in their school work and be leaders in the classroom.
The students in my classroom love to read and I want them to be successful in all areas of their lives!
My Project
My students are in need of a way to listen to books as a Daily 5 center during our Reading class. In order to build fluency, students need to hear books being read, not just read them to themselves. My students will do this center one day per week, while also writing about what they have listened to. These Amazon Fire's would allow my children to access the internet and numerous book apps that already have the leveled books available to them. Having these in my classroom will allow my students to have easy access to technology and be able to go anywhere in the room to listen to reading.
