Becoming Amazing Writers Through Great Children's Literature
My students need 2 packs of lanyards and 20 children's books.
This project expired on September 14, 2010.
Hooray! This project is fully funded
I want to make writing engaging and fun for my students to encourage them to continue to write throughout their lives.
My students are sweet boys and girls in first grade that need school to be a stable place so they would want to attend.
The students at my school are 63% Hispanic, 41% are English language learners, and approximately 70% are socioeconomically disadvantaged.
Our school uses circle maps, tree maps and flow maps to teach students the fundamentals of writing. I want to teach my students not only the basic format of writing a story, but also help them develop a love for writing. Each day, we will read one of these books and use it as the foundation of our writing mini lesson. Then we will analyze the books for the interesting things the authors did in their writing and learn to do the same things in our writing. The books will engage the students in well written stories and help them write their own stories. They will then share with their classmates and gain confidence in themselves through positive feedback.
By giving us these books, my students will hear and read well written children's literature.
It will help instill in them a love of reading and give them good models of writing. This will help them want to develop and share their writing. Writing is a skill they will need their whole lives.
