Mr. Carroll from Moss Point MS is requesting professional development through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
I need help covering the cost of registration and a teacher stipend for the Beauty and Joy of Computing workshop.

Most students welcome any chance to escape the traditional classroom environment of textbooks and teacher-delivered lectures. Computer Science projects will provide that opportunity while engaging students in STEM-related concepts at the same time!
Computer Science projects have a strong appeal to our very technologically savy students and represents the perfect blend of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
However, due to the lack of funding, we cannot purchase the resources necessary to bring the STEM-related concepts from this project to life for our students. We are a Title I school. 96% of our students qualify for free or reduced priced lunch. Most of our students have never learned how to code. By funding this project, we can, capitalize on their technological savy, provide an opportunity for our students to participate in their very first computer coding project, and enhance interest in STEM by helping our students understand the role of STEM and the importance of making good grades in math and science.
This project will cover the registration cost and stipend for the Beauty and Joy of Computing workshop. This hands-on computer science workshop will empower me to incorporate research-based curriculum into my classroom. Some of my students do not have access to computers at home. However, at school, they are very interested and eager to learn more about computers and how they work. In this workshop I will have the opportunity to "see the curriculum in action, explore the research, investigate the cognitive challenges for students struggling with STEM, and see lessons taught by master teachers." In addition to the learning and resources I will gain from this workshop, I will receive a stipend to offset additional expenses.
Incorporating this research-based curriculum into the classroom and into extracurricular activities will empower my students to learn how to program computers, explore new software, and expose them to the exciting STEM-related careers in the field of computer science.
In today's economy, there are many jobs that incorporate computer science. I would like the opportunity to build upon my students' interests in computers, smart phones, and gaming to inspire them to pursue STEM-related careers. Thanks for coordinating this event, CSTA!
