This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you saw images from across the world that opened your mind and heart to the world around you? My students are hungry for that knowledge and to share about their culture in and through class, please help!

We are a pre-k through 4th grade school located in Texas in a charter school that takes and loves students from all backgrounds.

We are 73% Hispanic, 24% African American, 2% Asian, and 1% Caucasian, and 100 percent dedicated to getting to and through college.

My Project

My students will start by reading and pulling apart the elements of articles from TIME for Kids. They will see all of the elements including incredible visuals/facts/creative writing/importance of events to be shared. Partners will take time on my computer to begin creating their articles about their school then ultimately their home community. Partners will also be taught what makes powerful images and taught how to use a digital camera. As the year progresses we will move towards creating a class newspaper to be sent home, and maybe created for the whole school!

There are many ways for students to learn, and these are skills students are not often trusted with until they are older.

I believe sometimes it is too late and they struggle to appreciate/create this type of work and most important - this type of teamwork and thinking. I want to nourish their creativity/teamwork/ and important like skills.
