This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are primarily first generation Americans at a Title I public school. These young scholars are motivated English language learners. They are working very hard to become fluent in English and advance their academics. They are eager and excited learners. My students have embraced the American Dream and are willing to apply themselves to achieve. Their families value education and are extremely supportive of their children's learning. My students' families often do not have the financial resources for new school supplies.

My Project

My students often bring their lunches, supplies, and homework to and from school in hand me down backpacks. A few children use recycled plastic bags or bring their items in their hands. New backpacks will help my students take pride in caring for their school materials. They allow these young scholars to keep their supplies and work organized, which is an essential life skill. Backpacks are an important part of being a successful student.

Backpacks are a necessary tool to help students become responsible, diligent, and productive citizens of the future.
