This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I'm apart of team of ENL teachers in a Title I school and I service students in grades 1 - 3. All of my students are English Language Learners and a portion of them have special needs.
My students are a unique bunch of excited and motivated learners, all eager to learn English and develop foundational skills.
They come from various cultural backgrounds and have a variety of home languages and academic needs and abilities. They love reading and collaborating in small groups. My students are eager to explore topics by using various classroom supplies and manipulatives. They love to learn new vocabulary and new information. I strive to create fun and engaging learning opportunities to support all of my students and provide engaging books and hands on activities for them.
My Project
I am an avid reader and as an educator I strive to instill a deep love of reading in the hearts of all of my students. When students are provided with an organized and inviting library with a variety of books, they develop a love for reading. We have books in different languages and a variety of levels to give students empowerment to choose what they like and are interested in.
Our classroom library needs to be organized and labeled for the large number and variety of students that use it.
Our library is a focal point in our classroom. We need book bins to label all the different levels of books and neatly display them for easier book browsing. Once our library is organized and well-designed the students will be able to select leveled books independently by subject or genre and build a love for reading.
