I have a room full of curious, smart and hard working six and seven year olds. My classroom consists of three different languages, but they all share the same passion and excitement for learning. Many of my students depend on local churches to donate food and clothing for their families throughout the school year. Over eighty percent of my students receive free or reduced price lunches. Often times, I provide my students with the basic school supplies they need to be successful in the classroom.
My Project
Living in Iowa, most of January, February and some of March is spent indoors due to the bitter cold and large amounts of snow and ice. Students cheer when they get the chance to go back outside because they find inside recess boring.
My students need games and toys to enjoy during inside recess so they can get the break their brains need before going back to learning.
The few games we have are old and falling apart or have missing pieces, so they can't play the game completely.
Not only will the games give my students enjoyment, but they also allow them to express their creativity and use their imagination with the items like Play-Doh and building blocks.
These games will not only be used during inside recess, but also in reviewing academic concepts like math with games like Pie Face. The blocks and dominoes will also be used in science during our STEM building activities. All of the games that I have requested were suggestions from my students themselves. They are so excited to show their teacher how to play some of these games I’ve never played. They’re itching at the chance to see whip cream plop on my face in Pie Face!
