I looking at having about 35 students from 7th to 12th grade in the marching band for the 2019 - 2020 school year.
Without these outdoor supplies, my students will not be able to achieve the wonderful things I know that they can achieve whenever we go outdoors.
These students are exceptionally talented, but they do not have the proper equipment in order to succeed. I have already begun acquiring new instruments and replacing out-dated and broken instruments.
Being from a low-income area, where more than half of the students receive free/reduced-price lunch, makes changing the band fees a complicated issue. Most of the students pay for their band fee through their individual fundraising efforts throughout the year. The budget provided by the school district has to cover anything else: travel, professional development, instrument repair, etc. With a low budget, minimal band fees, and around a dozen fundraisers each year, the students really deserve the additional assistance you can provide.
My Project
The materials I have selected will help my students stay cool in the outdoor heat of South Carolina in the midst of summer.
I have selected water coolers, canopy tents, & cooling rags as ways to beat the heat.
Our current water coolers leak if they are filled more than halfway, and we receive no assistance from the athletic department. We used to have 2 canopy tents, but last year one of them went on a windy adventure and broke. The one that we have left can in no way shade all of the students. Finally, I want to get the student cooling rags, that they can keep. These will help keep their heads and necks covered and cool during the temperatures that can reach 90 degrees in the morning.
