This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students live in a small community in Northeast Alabama. 68% of students at my school receive free and reduced-price lunch. Even though many of our students live at or below the poverty line, students and teachers at my school work hard to bridge the achievement gap. Students receive an education full of rigor and receive quality instruction from a vast array of trained professional educators. Our high school is committed to helping our students become successful global citizens in the 21st century.
My Project
Going to Washington, D.C. is a once in a lifetime trip. Being able to see the places we learn about in Government brings History to life for my students. The opportunity to go on this trip will be forever ingrained into my students. There are many students who need to see things with their own eyes for them to be real. This opportunity will allow my students to interact with history in a way they haven’t been able to in my classroom during the fall semester. The students will see the Washington Monument, go inside the White House, stand on the spot where Martin Luther King, Jr. stood at the Lincoln Memorial, etc.
