This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I am a Math Coach at a Title I school in a rural area with limited resources and limited space. I share the Media Center tables at the present when I work with my students who lack basic fact fluency in Math. Bean Bag chairs would allow for a Math Center to be created for these students.
I work with students in grades 2 through 5 who lack basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division facts that are essential to learning more complex math problems.
I work with small groups in each grade and I use iPads that will fit in the students laps. At the present we have to share the tables in the Media Center with the librarian and the students who are in there at the time that we meet. With the bean bag chairs we could create a Math Center in the Corner of My Classroom Office shared with the Reading Coach.
My Project
My Students will use the bean bag chairs to sit on and place the iPads in their laps as they practice the basic skills on the apps that are downloaded for their specific learning needs in a quiet area. The media center does not provide a quiet environment at the present as the librarian reads books to students then they choose a book to check out.
My project will make a difference by providing a safe, quiet learning center where students can practice their basic Math facts that are the essential foundation to being successful in Mathematics for a lifetime.
