Help me give my students some basic classroom necessities like pencils, dry erase markers, pens, headphones, and beanbag seating for our library corner!
My students come from a high poverty low-income city. They come from all neighborhoods within Bridgeport and all receive free breakfast, lunch, and a snack.
My students all have special needs, with the majority being on the autism spectrum.
This year I have a total of twelve students in the 7th or 8th grade. Among themselves, they are a very close-knit group of students who support and cheer each other on! This is a new school for six of them, having "graduated" from the elementary school they had been attending and transferred into this new school. Being transferred as a student into a new larger school than they were used to, on top of being a student with autism, has made this a difficult transition. My goal in working with these students is to make this transition smooth, help them establish friendships, engaged in learning, and motivated to come to school every day ready to learn!
My Project
With this project I hope to provide my students with some basic classroom necessities to make their learning easier. I am looking for pens in various colors for when they are self correcting their work, expo markers for students to doing math work on the white board, laminating paper to laminate their books for our annual "Young Authors" night, and headphones to use with their laptops and donated Kindles, word study workbooks to help increase my students oral and storytelling vocabulary, and disinfecting wipes to keep our desks clean and students healthy!
My students love our little library corner.
It is a place that is quiet with comfy chairs and lots of books to choose from, or for them to just relax and recompose themselves. Unfortunately this past year the three chairs we had broke! With this project, I hope to add some bean bag chairs for our reading corner.
