I love my students because all of them are great kids! All of them, however, read below grade level and that's why they are in my support class. Here they can read at their level and work on increasing their fluency and improve their decoding and comprehension skills. You can see their confidence rise over the year and it's exciting to watch!
They may be reluctant to read aloud in their English Language Arts class, but all of them are comfortable to read in my class because they are reading at their level.
Most of all, I want them to associate reading with pleasure, but at the same time, push them to read more, and also encourage more challenging texts.
My Project
Flexible seating allows students to learn in ways that fit their needs. Sometimes kids just want to lay out straight on the floor or sit cross - legged to do their work. Sitting at a desk is not a requirement for learning!
Reading a good book and getting into the “zone” calls for more than a hard straight back chair!
Bean bags chairs are one alternative that I am eager to offer to my students. Having a rug also will make the area cozier and allow for more comfortable floor seating. I only wish that my classroom teachers had them when I was young!
