I want my students to develop the skills needed to be scientific investigators. I want them to engage in the tough questions and problems our world faces instead of avoiding them.
My students are overall hard working and easily motivated.
Most of the jobs in the area are hard-working, blue collar jobs. They are very hands-on learners. They respond best to the material when they can see it and touch it. The more time they get to spend in the science lab, the more interested they are in completing the less engaging materials. The school has about 500-600 students, grades 9-12th. There is one science lab for the entire school so the equipment is used often.
My Project
My students will use these materials on a weekly basis. The reason I am requesting them is because the beakers we currently have are very old and can break easily, especially when heated. My students perform at least 1-2 labs a week and each lab uses beakers in some capacity. Students have made chalk in a double replacement reaction and distilled cherry coke. Without quality lab equipment, it would not be possible for my students to do these labs.
These donations will improve the safety of my classroom.
Old worn beakers can be very hazardous because they can break easily. More reliable equipment allows for more frequent lab activities. Students will have more opportunities to be engaged and inspired by the material they are learning.
