As a first-year teacher, I strive to impact my students in ways that are fun and different from the standard classroom. My goal from your support and help, as well as from DonorsChoose.org, is that I will be able to provide my students with meaningful and memorable experiences in 2nd grade. 2nd grade is an important year for collaboration to start building relationships. In order to do that, I need an environment and supplies that will allow the students to be successful.
My Project
I believe that every classroom should have materials that make students of all cultures feel included! As I prepare for my first year of teaching in a diverse community, I have noticed that I have a lack of culturally diverse books and art materials. On the first day of school, I plan to have my students draw a picture of themselves. It is evident that normal classroom supplies do not include diverse skin colors so many have to settle for a color that is not representative of their skin. My goal as a first-year teacher is to make sure that all of my students feel included. I want to make sure of this by adding more culturally diverse art materials, as well as more education on different cultures through literature.
These art materials and books will help me to ensure that all of my students feel represented, accepted, appreciated, and loved.
