My students need a camera that moves with them and can be hands free to document their learning while outside trailblazing in a set of woods in our local community.
Do you remember when you were a kid and technology was a part of your life but not all of it. The community and students are trailblazing a piece of property to help promote healthy living and outdoor recreation.
Small tight knit community is what America is build on.
The community my students live in have strong values in hard work and being progressive in making a name for itself. Our current school district is composed of 1 large town and 2 smaller towns. Many of our students come from very rural areas and have what most people would consider to be poverty stricken homes. However, the energy among the students, staff, and administration is something that I've never experienced before. Their positive attitudes and willingness to overcome obstacles translates into their learning.
My Project
My students are currently pioneering a piece of the town's property. The end goal is to have the property selectively cut and to keep the trails that are currently existing. Part of that is having the students inform the community around them, building signs, building a kiosk, preserving its historical significance to the town, and lastly and more importantly that the piece of property is open and usable for walking, snowshoeing, biking, and general recreation (non-motorized). The GoPro camera will allow students to video a day on the trail. It could be for walking and showing significant parts of why we need to selectively cut or what the trails look like from the perspective of riding a bike.
The donations will improve my classroom by giving it the ability to take high quality videos and make tutorials or testimonies about the piece of property we are pioneering.
Let's face it, we want our students to be teachers, advocates, business people, and most of all entrepreneurs. Help my classroom become trailblazers in their community by giving them a piece of technology that will help them reach beyond their own inner circles.
