My students need will be working on a project during the final six weeks of the year by participating in literature circles while researching & proposing a solution to a social injustice of their choosing. We need the books to support this project.
My students are incredibly bright, self-motivated students who want to learn. They have taken on the challenge of being in a Pre-AP class and rise to meet the challenge on a daily basis. They work hard and enjoy learning.
The students in my classroom have very diverse needs.
Some have easy access to books, technology, and parental support, while others don't have access to any of those things. Many of the students in my school are from middle to low-income families who struggle to provide basic needs, much less access to books.
My Project
Students will be completing a social injustice unit during the final six weeks of the year. The book choices will all be based on social injustices found in society and students will get to select the book they would like to read in small groups. The books selected address a variety of issues such as mental health disorders including anxiety and PTSD, immigration, HIV stigma and bullying, racism, education, and medical ethics. The books provided will allow more students to read their first book choice as these books are highly sought after books.
In our ever-changing world, the emergence of social injustice is more present than ever before.
It’s vital for our students, who will be change-makers and future leaders in America, be exposed to various social injustices and how teens their age overcame such adversity. These books will support our project.
