A typical day in my classroom requires students to be focused and attentive. We spend lots of time reading and getting to know books. This helps children develop interest for reading and become a lifelong learner.
Some students speak different languages at home, some come from low socioeconomic households, and some aren't able to live with their parents.
I will have the pleasure of teaching 25 brilliant kindergarten students. Some of these children have never been in school before and others have several years of experience. For this reason they are all at very different academic levels.
My Project
These books will continue to enhance the print-rich classroom that I strive to create. I have been collecting books in my classroom library for 12 years. It is a place that my students really enjoy-I read on the carpet to them, they complete work there, and they read independently! What I haven't been collecting are books that I can use during guided reading. This is when the teacher works in small groups with students at the same level. The books that you are helping purchase are the four main levels kindergartners will use. The books are topics that my students will enjoy reading and therefore begin to develop their love for learning and reading.
After the books are used during guided reading, students will keep them in their book bag to continue to practice reading the texts.
Therefore, the books I need must be of high interest to young learners. Scholastic is well known for publishing books children love and wish to read over and over again. The best way to increase reading ability is to read more, and these books will continue to help my students grow stronger in reading.
