I have the opportunity to work with 18 students that are always searching for ways to become better learners. They ask engaging questions that stimulate great discussions. When you think of the qualities that make up a great student, creativity, honesty, dedication, respect, leadership, and the ability to listen and respond, these students have all of those qualities.
The students I teach are always searching for knowledge.
They have a great work ethic that has been instilled in them by their families. These students have diverse backgrounds. Some have lived in large cities, while others have experience farming, fishing, hunting, and working with animals. It is my responsibility to take these things into consideration so that I may help them on their journey to become "college and career ready".
The students are often interested in integrating technology into the classroom and discovering what they learn can apply to their everyday lives.
My Project
The Sphero robot will provide my students with hands-on experiences with coding. The students will create and manipulate code to allow Sphero to perform specific functions.
Integrating robotics and coding throughout instruction will make lessons more meaningful.
The greatest moments in teaching are ones that are fueled by experiences.
The students can use Sphero to simulate the Earth's revolution around the sun, or to help recreate a meaningful scene in a text in order help the students' comprehension.
There are infinite ways in which a Sphero can be used. I'm eager to see how the students will use Sphero to solve problems and create new ideas.
If the content being taught can be connected to an experience, there is a greater chance the content becomes more meaningful and is etched into our memory.
