Our students come from very diverse backgrounds. Blue collar, white collar... farmers and CEOs... our community hosts a wide range of experiences and incomes. Located in a township without a post office, our school struggles to make ends meet at times. We aren't Title I but could be. We have a very strong community presence in our school, which helps, but constant budget cuts mean less money.
Even with these obstacles, our community is eager to see their children achieve a higher level of academic success than previous generations.
In today's world, being literate in technology is an essential skill. We hope to prepare and enrich our students for such a tech-based world.
The materials from this project will be used to transform the media center/library into a restaurant of books! The students will experience books they may not have considered before by sampling them at our book tasting.
Each book in the tasting will have a place setting at the table complete with centerpieces, place mats, and tablecloths!
Using the menu as a guide, the students will choose which books they may want to read and create a list to select possible books to read and enjoy.
The book tasting event will be a memorable way for students to get excited about new books and encourage them to satisfy their natural curiosity by having access to a wide variety of books that may not have been exposed to otherwise. So, Be Our Guest; and allow the books to serve up their best stories! Bon appetit!
