My students need sensory toys, fidgets, a bungee cord chairs, light filters for fluorescent lights, and a floor lamp to help meet their sensory needs in the classroom.
Welcome to The Exceptional "W's" program! Our program serves students with a variety of disabilities in the self contained setting. Our school is a high poverty school in the Low Country of South Carolina. The majority of our students receive free or reduced lunch.
The purpose of our program is to equip our students with the academic, functional, and job skills needed to succeed in the world!
It is our pleasure to be able to teach these skills to our students, however, sometimes we need help providing all the things we need to help our program run smoothly.
My Project
It is so important in the special needs classroom to have all sensory needs met. The majority of my students are on the Autism Spectrum and have a variety of sensory needs.
Imagine coming into class and the lights are too bright, the desks are too hard, and the world is just a little bit too much to handle at 7:00 in the morning.
The purpose of this project is to provide the items that my students need to fulfill it's sensory needs. The light filters will dim the overly bright fluorescent lights and the floor lamp will provide different lighting options. The sensory toys will provide a menu of items from my students to choose from to help calm their senses and focus their brains. The bungee cord chair will help my students that need to move their bodies and get out of a hard desk.
