This year, I plan to have the students in my special education class make their own ABC book! We will make an art project for each letter of the alphabet. Students will have the opportunity to have fun and be creative while learning essential skills.
My class is a preschool and transitional kindergarten special day class.
The students have different challenges ranging from speech and language to autism spectrum disorder. I have found that using art to teach the alphabet, and additional important skills, really engages the students and helps them learn.
We will create different art projects out of construction paper, paint and other materials. For example, we will make robots for the letter R and paint beautiful flowers for F. This gives the students the opportunity to learn while being active and creative. They can then take these books home and read them over and over. This will help them learn the alphabet in a very personal and meaningful way.
My classroom is located in Norther California in a high poverty, multicultural school.
There is very little money allocated for classroom supplies. My students deserve so much more. Please help me provide them with the level of education they so deserve.
