I teach a fifth grade classroom filled with diverse students who are all high spirited and eager to learn. As students that attend a Title I funded school, many of them come from a variety of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, therefore I have learners on many different levels. However, despite what my students may deal with at home, I provide an environment rich with learning that feels like a second home. My students support each other and continuously encourage each other to do the best that they can do and frequently acknowledge each other's accomplishments. As a second year teacher, I have been blessed with a kind-hearted and inclusive classroom full of lifelong learners.
My Project
Establishing a strong foundation in literacy and fostering a love for reading begins at the elementary level. With the purchase of these materials, my students will be able to further their reading and writing proficiency through novel studies.
With the purchase of the novel set, Walk Two Moons, my students have the opportunity to enhance their literacy skills in a multitude of ways.
When reading Walk Two Moons, my students will have the opportunity to analyze a text with a dual plot. While analyzing the development of the plot throughout the text, my students will also be able to further their understanding of character development and how that impacts the story. While analyzing this fictional text, my students will have the opportunity to interact with literature circles and contribute to productive and thoughtful discussions. Students will also be able to engage in writing activities from different perspectives presented throughout the text.
Novel studies encourage students to participate in an interactive reading group while improving their analytical and fluency skills. Help me foster the love for reading with the purchase of this novel set for my young readers.
