I am a fourth-grade teacher in an inner-city school in Massachusetts. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with one hundred percent of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch. Our school is also one of the most ethnically diverse schools in the city where students speak a multitude of languages. As diverse as our students are economically and culturally, they are diverse in their academics.
My students walk into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn and excited for what is in store for them that day.
Many of my students receive backpack food on the weekend, and our school also runs a food pantry for our families. Despite so many hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day, however that is not possible at this time. The majority of my students don’t have technology at home and, therefore, cannot access digital learning materials. The majority of them also don’t have school supplies at home to complete distant learning projects. Furthermore, their socio-emotional health has been negatively impacted greatly.
My Project
I am a fourth-grade teacher at an inner-city school in Massachusetts, which also happens to be Worcester's largest public elementary school. Our students come from a variety of different economic backgrounds with 100% of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch. Despite so many hardships, our students are eager to learn and do their best. They want to be in school because they want to learn all they can so they can be successful one day, but unfortunately, they can't be in school at this time. Therefore, we are hoping to provide care packages to our neediest, most vulnerable students while they cope with this scary situation. These care packages will contain school supplies, as well as comfort items, like snacks and relaxation toys. If you are looking for a way to give to those in need, please consider making a donation to support our children. Thanks in advance!
