I teach music at a school in suburban South Carolina. These students make up forty-seven classes in grades Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade, including special ed, regular ed, and gifted students. Many of these students come from low income families and they rely on teachers or the school for their materials. All of my students love new experiences. They are always eager to get involved in learning.
Our mascot is the “Busy Bee” and we certainly stay busy trying to make every moment count in music class!
My Project
Our school gives students the opportunity to be in clubs on designated days (about 10 days each school year). This is a great way for students to explore new activities and meet new friends. They can choose a club related to anything from sports, to robotics, to music, to theater, to art, and so many more. My club is called "Baubles and Beeds" because our school mascot is the "Busy Bee" and we use beads, wire, clay, and other materials to make fun art projects.
My students love to be creative and this beading/art club gives them the opportunity to express their own style and make new friends at the same time!
During club time, the students get to interact with other kids of various grade levels and work together to create artistic pieces. Some of the projects planned for the upcoming year include earrings, bracelets, washer pendant necklaces, duct tape key chains, button wind chimes, and bookmarks. The jewelry tools, eye pins, beads, charms, duct tape, washers, cording, wire, buttons, nail polish, and key rings will make these projects come to life.
