Help me give my students 17 of the 21 titles we need for Battle of the Books. The other 4 titles I have already ordered in vast quantities from Scholastic and the kids have them in their hands.
Battle of the Books calls for kids to read 21 books and compete against other schools, Jeopardy style. We are hungry to defend our network title! In the four years we have had the program, we have been city finalists. That means we have been in the top 15 schools in the city out of approximately 400 elementary schools!
My Battle of the Books team will be comprised of 7th and 8th grade students.
I am working as our school reading interventionist with mostly younger students. However, I want to continue to work with middle school students and middle school books! I encourage all students to join, regardless of their reading level. They all like to read and they love to challenge one another. Our school values after school programs and encourages middle school students to participate. It is important for middle school students to have appropriate places to socialize and explore interests in a safe setting with involved mentors. Our kids all eagerly anticipate the beginning of our after school programs. I want to begin the program with all of the books available.
My Project
This is all about US IN PROGRESS. We will feel so SUNNY if we get all of these titles. While we enjoy the journey throughout the year, we were slightly crushed when we didn't place at the city finals. Help us REBOUND and RESTART by getting these brand new titles in our hands.
I'm sure my students will be reading these NIGHTBOOKS by flashlight before they KNOCK OUT each evening and dream of a championship.
Ok, in all seriousness, I'll be FALLING OVER SIDEWAYS if we could get these books prior to the beginning of the program in October so we can hit the ground running.
My students are tracking me down looking for book after book. It makes me feel good making a morning drop during homeroom and having kids show up after school looking to make an exchange. Your donation will help us make memories this school year. While it may seem that it's all about the books and all about the reading, it's really all about the completing the challenge. It's all about working toward a goal.
