The Battle of the Books team is made up of 4th and 5th grade students who are competitive and eager to read. They come from a variety of backgrounds, but all share a love of reading and a willingness to learn and work hard. They encourage each other and urge one another to read every book in the program.
The Battle of the Books team reads and re-reads the ten selected books and practices before and after school to prepare for competition.
My Project
Each year, ten books are selected for the district Battle of the Books competition. Students begin reading the books in September, practices begin in December, and competitions typically occur in March or April. At the district regional and final competitions, students compete against other elementary schools to see who is most familiar with the books.
BoB team members need access to multiple copies of the selected books.
With 20+ students on the team, there are often not enough books to go around. With four additional copies of each title, the BoB team could more easily access books to prepare for competition.
