This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a credit recovery campus located in a rural part of Texas. As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty school district, our students are faced with many challenges every day, both in and out of school. Our campus is comprised of 400+ students, where 100% qualify for free or reduced-price school lunch.

Our students are very humble and eager to earn their credits quick in order to graduate and move on to post-secondary schools and work.

We get to know each of the students and their parents and understand what they go through on a daily basis. Students feel that they have a better high school experience at our campus because we're always interacting with each and every student, we're always checking their progress on a daily basis, and we're always trying to incorporate new ways to keep the students and their parents actively involved within the school.

My Project

Batting helmets is a crucial safety part in softball. With your donations, we will be able to order some new batting helmets to protect the girls' heads during practice and during the games.

With their heads protected, the girls will be able to focus on the practice and game situations they will be placed in throughout the games.

The girls will be more willing to play their hearts out knowing that their heads are safe. This will be one less thing for our coaches to stress about, knowing that our girls will be safe.
